WHAT IS NJROTC?

​​The NJROTC program was started in 1964 by Congress.  It was started to emphasize leadership development and citizenship.  The NJROTC program is NOT military recruitment.
​​HEAD START
People who are successful in life, who succeed in business, industry, and education have often developed a strong sense of self discipline, an ability to lead and motivate others, and a well rounded character.  Naval Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps (NJROTC) teaches you self-discipline, self-confidence, and leadership skills that can help you meet life's challenges.  NJROTC curriculum, instruction, and activities are designed to develop your leadership ability regardless of your career path.

MISSION OF THE NJROTC
The mission of the program is to "instill in students in United States secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment."

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS
To enroll in an NJROTC program, you must:
  • Be a US citizen or a resident alien
  • Be enrolled in the school sponsoring the unit
  • Be physically fit enough to participate in the school's regular physical education program
  • Agree to comply with uniform and grooming standards
  • Be selected by the instructors for the program

WHAT DOES NJROTC DO?

  • Promotes Patriotism.

NJROTC ACADEMIC & CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Success in NJROTC can create opportunities for college ROTC scholarships, US Naval Academy appointment, or US Navy enlistment.
COLLEGE ROTC PROGRAMS
College ROTC Eligibility Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizen
  • 17 years old by September 1st of the year starting college
  • Be a High School graduate or possess equivalency certificates by August 1st of the same year
  • ACT 22 Math and 22 English required to apply
  • SAT 520 Math and 530 Verbal required to apply

ROTC College Scholarship Benefits:
Full tuition - Full tuition at over 100 universities across the nation
Books - Scholarship students get all costs of books and laboratory fees reimbursed
Monthly Stipend - Scholarship recipients receive  a monthly stipend while enrolled in the program.

No Obligation:
There is NO OBLIGATION incurred by applying for the college scholarship.  In fact, you can accept the scholarship and stay enrolled in the program for a FULL YEAR without incurring obligation.  Try the program for one year.  If after one year you find that the Navy is not for you, drop the scholarship and OWE NOTHING!!!  That's the one year of tuition on the Navy with no obligation incurred.

Guaranteed Job:
Upon graduation from college, ROTC students have a guaranteed job in the United States Navy.  Graduates are placed directly into managerial positions as pilots, aircraft mission commanders, surface warfare officers, SEALS, nuclear power submarine officers, or Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers.  For complete information regarding Navy ROTC scholarships click on the NROTC Scholarship Website at https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/

UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY
The United States Naval Academy also offers a free college education for qualified high school graduates. Candidates for all the federal service academies normally require an appointment from a U.S. Congressman or Senator with application.  Senior JROTC Military Science Instructors may provide these appointments if the JROTC unit is designated as a "Distinguished Unit".   For complete information on the United States Naval Academy click on the USNA Website at: www.usna.edu

NAVY ENLISTMENT OPPORTUNITIES
A NJROTC cadet successfully completing 2 or more years can enlist at a higher pay grade than those who haven't completed this course.  This will allow you to earn extra money from day one upon entering military service.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE NJROTC PROGRAM?

  • Approximately 60 percent of the NJROTC cadets who are graduating seniors continue to higher education.
  • The NJROTC program is motivational in encouraging cadets to graduate from high school and continue to higher education offering free ACT/SAT preparation. 
  • NJROTC cadets are better behaved, have higher attendance, are role models for the avoidance of substance abuse, have higher self-esteem, develop positive life skills, on average have higher grade point averages and graduate at a higher rate.
  • Cadets learn the value of teamwork and individual accomplishments from belonging to NJROTC.
  • The character education in NJROTC teaches values, principles, and self-discipline promoting positive, productive behaviors and provides a support structure that is critical not only in helping cadets avoid the use of drugs, but living a healthy and fit lifestyle.
  • NJROTC provides the opportunity for secondary school students to learn the basic elements and need for national security and their personal obligations as Americans.
  • The program enhances the image of the military in the eyes of the community by providing a chance for success for the nations youth.
  • Cadets accepted for enlistment, who provide evidence of successful completion of at least 3 years of NJROTC are entitled to advanced promotion to pay grade E-3 upon initial enlistment in an active or reserve component of the Army, Navy, or Air Force, and pay grade E-2 in the Marine Corps; or completion of 2 years are entitled to E-2 (except in the Marine Corps and Air Force).
  • Senior Naval Science Instructor is authorized to nominate a maximum of three eligible cadets each year to compete for U.S. Naval Academy appointments.
  • Administrators of host schools that are designated as Distinguished Units with Academic Honors may nominate three eligible NJROTC cadets as candidates for appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and U.S. Air Force Academy in addition to the three nominations above to the U.S. Naval Academy.
